"Seven Hills Neighborhood Houses"

Rooted in the settlement house model, Seven Hills Neighborhood Houses (aka The Neighborhood House) has been serving the West End Community as a social services resource and community gathering space for over 80 years. The mission of the Neighborhood House is, as partners in the communities we serve; we are dedicated to improving the quality of life of our neighbors. 

The Neighborhood House is located at 901 Findlay Street.  Today, it is the safe-haven and second home for approximately 2,500 – 3,000 at-risk children, teens, families, seniors, and disadvantaged citizens. In addition to the historic service, the Neighborhood House serves as the Community Development Corporation of the West End and operates the Trauma Recovery Center of Cincinnati. 

Rooted in service to children and families and as the first organization to provide lead agency services to CPS; Seven Hills Neighborhood Houses proudly returns to serve as Lead Agency for Sands Montessori and four other Cincinnati Public Schools.

Finding a “Lead Agency” who is a right fit for the school and community is an important endeavor that is not taken lightly.  This “Lead Agency” is also responsible for finding the right fit for the Resource Coordinators in your schools.

Growing on the Inside while Outside

 

Research has proven that spending time in nature is essential for cognitive development. Nature play stimulates creativity and problem solving skills integral to executive function development. Children who play and spend time in nature have increased concentration and cognitive skills, including mitigation of ADHD/ADD symptoms. That is why Sands Montessori made it a priority to bring more nature to the campus. The Sands Montessori Parent Organization worked alongside parents, children, teachers, and community partners to plant fifty trees around the campus to bring shade, beauty, natural history, and support wildlife. They also built a natural playscape for the children to engage with nature while strengthening their mind and body. With climbing structures, loose parts, a rolling hill, and seventeen tons of sand, the possibilities for fun, learning, and growth are endless! 250 volunteer hours also built a community among the Sands Families and Mount Washington neighbors.
