Extracurricular Activities

After-school programs and extracurricular activities provide a richer environment to help students learn and grow. At Sands Montessori, students have access to a variety of programs and activities to explore their interests.

After-School Enrichment / Student Enrichment Programs (SEP)

The Sands Montessori Parent Organization coordinates a wide array of after-school enrichment opportunities. These include, but are not limited to, karate, art, Spanish, dance, cooking, and cake decorating. At the beginning of each semester, program booklets are sent home with every child listing the classes available and the cost of participating. Some scholarships are available for these programs, thanks to the SMPO.

SEP classes are coordinated by the SMPO, with support from the school and in partnership with the individual SEP instructors. Many people have worked together to make these classes available to Sands students at a reasonable cost.

Back to School Picnic
At the beginning of the school year, there is an all-school picnic, a chance for families, friends, teachers, and staff to reconnect.

CRC After-School
CAMP CRC offers before and after-school care for your children (ages 6 to 12 and 5-year-olds enrolled in all-day kindergarten). Dates of operation for both before and after-school camps coincide with the Cincinnati Public Schools calendar.

Fall Carnival
The Sands Fall Carnival is complete with games, prizes, shopping, food trucks, a bouncy obstacle course and more. The Sands Fall Carnival is a fun event for the whole family and community. Held at the school, the carnival features game booths run by each classroom and a split-the-pot raffle. Fall Carnival typically occurs the last Saturday in October.

Family Reading Night
Family Reading Night features fun literacy-based activities for kids of all ages, including a theatrical production, story readings, and an all-ages book swap! Bring your gently loved books for all reading levels (yes - adult books too!) and browse selections for some new-to-you reading.

Grandparents Day
The SMPO coordinates this very popular program in the Fall. Hundreds of grandparents and special friends come to Sands one morning for a continental breakfast, a chance to meet the Principal, and most importantly, time spent in their grandchild's/special friend's classroom.

International Night
International Night gives the Sands community a chance to highlight the world's cultures through a pot luck dinner, ethnic dress, and diverse music.

Room Parents
The SMPO coordinates the Room Parent program. Room parents assist teachers with special events and act as a liaison between the SMPO and the classroom.

STEM Night
Once a year, Sands offers a chance for students and families to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math - STEM. Organized by our Librarian and Technology Coordinator, STEM night features various presenters, booths, and activities.

Teacher Appreciation Events
The SMPO loves to show appreciation to the teachers of Sands. This is done through multiple teacher appreciation events throughout the year.

Wellness Night
Typically held in April, the Wellness Committee organizes a fun, family-friendly evening with games, jump houses, rock wall climbing, and hula hooping. It is a fun way to burn off energy and promote families playing together.

The band is open to all 9-12 students who have a desire to play a band instrument. At Sands, band instruments include Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone and Percussion (Mallet Keyboard instruments, Snare and Bass Drum and auxiliary).

In a school year, children in grades 2-6 will join the Sands Choir. Practicing once a week before school, the children will learn many songs and have multiple opportunities to perform.

Advisor: The Sands Choir is coordinated by the Music Teacher.

Student Council

Suzuki Instrumental Program

Classes are offered for children interested in the violin and the viola. A lesson during the school day will be scheduled for you and your child. A group class will also be offered. The group class is a chance for the students to gather in a larger group setting to practice and rehearse their songs together within a supportive, nurturing environment.
